'Online renewal na!' LTO to open driver's license online renewal for OFWs this year

Online renewal of driver’s license will soon be available for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and other Filipinos living abroad after the Land Transportation Office (LTO) vowed to finish the online platform this year.

LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II said the online renewal platform will be launched in Taiwan in September this year and is expected to be made available for other OFWs and other Filipinos around the world within this year.

“The full online renewal of driver’s license is intended to ease the burden of the OFWs in transacting with the LTO as they previously wait for a long time before their licensed becomes valid again,” said Mendoza.

“We hope to fully implement this within this year. Once fully implemented, this is indeed a big help to all our clients, especially OFWs, because they do not have to go to our offices or wait for their return to the Philippines to renew their driver’s license,” he added.

Mendoza said they are currently working with the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) on matters relating to coordination and cooperation to maximize the use digital platforms for driver’s license renewal.

The move is expected to be a big boost in assisting the OFWs, as Mendoza said Philippine driver’s license is recognized around the world.

After Taiwan, Mendoza said they are coordinating with the DMW to expand the digital technology in the Middle East, Europe, the United States and other countries with huge Filipino population.
