With their lead down to just three, 91-88, Barefield displayed nerves of steel as he buried the booming quadruple to put the dagger to the hearts of the rallying Kings and finally notch their first win of the season in an emphatic fashion.

It was Blackwater’s first victory against Ginebra since 2019 when the then Ray Parks-led Elite upset the Kings, 108-107, in the Philippine Cup. The Bossing franchise lost all of their next nine games against Ginebra from thereon.

Shooting 1-of-5 from three-point territory and 0-of-2 from the four-point arc, Barefield made it count when it mattered the most, finishing with 13 points to also help preserve a big debut from new Blackwater import George King Jr.

King introduced himself in style and exploded for 33 points to go with 19 rebounds as he, no doubt, overcame his baptism of fire after holding his own against the barometer of all imports in the Kings resident reinforcement Justin Brownlee.

Brownlee, after dropping 51 points last time out, hardly cooled down and still fired 37 points although this time it was not enough to translate to a victory.

And that was largely behind the collective effort from the Bossing who embarked on a huge third quarter showing where they outscored the Kings, 31-20, with the Blackwater import pouring in 14 of his total output during that stretch.

When the dust settled, the Bossing built a lead that went to as high as 14 heading into the final frame and kept it behind the timely hits from King and Barefield.

Christian David added 12 while Troy Rosario chipped in 10 as the Bossing are now finally on the Group B win column with a 1-3 record.

Japeth Aguilar tried to provide support to Brownlee with 17 points and 11 rebounds while RJ Abarrientos added 10 as Ginebra slid to a 1-2 record.
