PSA: National ID issuance will proceed despite BSP supplier contract termination

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) said it is taking necessary measures to ensure the uninterrupted issuance of National IDs following the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas' (BSP) decision to terminate its contract with the current card supplier.

In a statement on Thursday, Aug. 29, PSA Undersecretary Claire Dennis S. Mapa expressed confidence in the BSP's assessment and decision while stressing the importance of keeping the ID issuance process ongoing.

The PSA had previously partnered with the BSP to produce Philippine ID cards. However, reports indicated that the central bank's Monetary Board has canceled its contract with its card supplier owing to peristent delays in delivery.

“The PSA trusts the assessment and decision of the Bangko Sentra ng Pilipinas (BSP) to terminate its contract with their supplier for the national ID card production,” Mapa said.

“The PSA is taking necessary measures for the continuous issuance of National IDs,” he added.

Despite the termination of the contract, Mapa noted that various formats of the National ID remain available for registered individuals.

These include the ePhilID, which can be obtained from registration centers, as well as the newly launched Digital National ID.

“We affirm our unwavering commitment to delivering a reliable and secure national ID system, ensuring that every registered person will receive their National ID,” he said.

As of July 26, 2024, a total of 88,983,568 Filipinos have registered for the National ID system.
