DOST opens natural dye hub in Antique


ILOILO CITY – The Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) has opened a natural dye hub in Antique province to support micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

DOST Secretary Renato Solidum Jr. led the opening of the Antique Natural Dyes Hub in San Remigio town as part of the 2024 Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (RSTW) celebration in Western Visayas.

“This is thoughtfully designed to meet the specific needs of the citizens and communities involved,” said Solidum.

The facility aims to support skill development and foster innovation and development not only in the textile industry of Antique but also Western Visayas.

The facility features dye extraction and textile dyeing that promotes sustainable coloration to be able to preserve and promote the traditional patadyong fabric of Antique.

The facility also has handloom weaving equipment.

The hub is a collaborative effort among DOST-PTRI, DOST-Western Visayas under Regional Director Rowen Gelonga, the Iguirindon Loom Weavers Association (ILWA), and the local government unit (LGU) of San Remigio.
