MAYOR John Dalipe leads the National Heroes Day commemoration in Zamboanga City on Monday, August 26.

Dalipe, in a short program at Plaza Rizal here, honored the great men and women who fought and struggled for independence, sovereignty, and freedom throughout the nation’s history.

He exalted the gallantry and sacrifices of the Filipinos of today, who, as modern-day heroes, bear the responsibility of nation-building.

“As Filipinos, as Zamboangueños, there is no better time to give more to our country, to our city.  Together, we must consolidate our aspirations, our talents, and our resources, and focus our attention to nation-building,” Dalipe said.

Brig. Gen. Taharudin Ampatuan, Western Mindanao Command deputy commander for internal defense, represented Lt. Gen. William Gonzales as keynote speaker.

The program was attended by City Hall department heads, regional government officials, members of the security sector, and officials and members of the Zamboanga Veterans Affairs Office.
