Passengers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) were advised to prepare due to warmer temperature in its terminals after three of its chillers were subjected to repair due to overheating, the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) said on Friday, Aug. 23.

The MIAA said that the chillers at NAIA Terminal 3 were observed at “high operational temperature” since Thursday, prompting the management to have them temporarily shut down for troubleshooting to prevent potential major damage to the airport’s entire cooling system.

“The MIAA understands that this may cause temporary inconvenience for passengers, employees, and all partners, and is working diligently to resolve the issue as swiftly as possible,” MIAA General Manager Eric Jose Ines said.

“We appreciate the patience and understanding of our T3 users as we work through this necessary troubleshooting process. We humbly advise our T3 users to wear light clothes, bring fans, and to hydrate, to further mitigate the expected warm temperature at the terminal,” he added.

Descaling, cleaning, and swabbing procedures were conducted on the affected chillers to ensure optimal operational conditions.

To mitigate discomfort, cooling fans have also been strategically deployed in the affected areas of the terminal.

“While troubleshooting activities are expected to be completed tomorrow morning, improved temperature levels may be anticipated by noontime,” Ines said.
