“The number is 144 percent higher compared to the dengue cases recorded in the same period last year,” the DOH-13 based here said.

Surigao del Norte has the highest number of cases at 2,564, followed by Surigao del Sur (1,521), Agusan del Norte (964), Butuan City (881), Agusan del Sur (864), and Province of Dinagat Islands (328).

DOH-13 Regional Director Dr. Cesar C. Cassion encourage the whole-of-government approach in the fight against dengue in the region.

“The health sector, all partner line agencies, and local government units must unite against dengue,” Cassion said.

The community also plays a key role in the fight against dengue, he added.

Cassion appealed to the public to follow measures to prevent the spread of dengue and protect their families and communities – searching and destroying mosquito breeding grounds, self-protection by applying mosquito repellants, and seeking early medical consultation when experiencing fever and other signs of infection.
