For OPM icon Ice Seguerra, the show must go on even if he isn't feeling well. Ice has recently revealed that he struggles with asthma attacks while performing, highlighting the immense dedication and resilience required of artists in the face of such challenges.

"May mga times na hinika ako in the middle of a song. Na-pa-practice ko siya kung paano ako huminga.  Ayoko itigil yung kanta. After the song, saka ako nagpa-puff," said Ice during an interview for his upcoming show entitled "Videoke Hits OPM Edition" at the Music Museum on Sept. 13, which would also serve as his birthday concert.

(Sometimes I took a quick breath in the middle of a song. I practiced breathing, as I didn't want to interrupt the music. After the song, I puffed.)

Ice, 40, said he had asthma since he was nine. "Nasanay na lang ako, especially during rehearsals. Then I play the guitar. I've had asthma since I was nine."

These days, his asthma isn't as severe as it used to be.

"Hindi na siya gawa before na talagang na-ho-hospitalize ako. Nagagamot naman eh. May inhaler naman. Minsan yung boses ko paos. Minsan kapag sinisipon na ako, two or three days meron na ako noon," the singer said.

(It's not the same as before when I was hospitalized. I'm receiving treatment. There's an inhaler. Sometimes, my voice is hoarse. Sometimes, when I get a cold, I've had it for two or three days.)

With 37 years in showbiz, Ice stated that he is enjoying his career.

"I am at that stage where I enjoy what I love to do, and people enjoy my music. Throughout the years, na-maintain ko ang fan base ko at meron din naman mga bago.

"Happy rin ako because I have my own production and we can produce stuff that we want. We conceptualize with our own ideas. Yung asawa ko biglang may maiisip na ideas and maganda naman," Ice said.

Ice attributed his career's continuation to the inspiring support of his wife, Liza Dino-Seguerra.

"Kung iisipin mo yung 37 years, pa-retire na yan eh. Pero yung asawa ko talagang siya ang nag pu-push when she sees a potential that I can give to the people.

(If you think about 37 years, that's about to retire. But my wife is the one who pushes me when she sees a potential that I can give to the people.)

"She's my manager now. So I am excited na marami pa pala akong pwede gawin. Pero kung ako lang yan, araw araw na akong tulog," he said.

(She's my manager now. So I'm excited that I can do a lot more. But if it's just me, I'll sleep every day.)

Ice added: "And then under Fire and Ice, we're also launching a new artist. So excited kami, because that's another venture. There are so many things to look forward to. Masipag lang talaga yung asawa ko."

Videoke hits

Ice said he's preparing for "Videoke Hits OPM Edition" at the Music Museum on Sept. 13, which would coincide with his birthday celebration.

"Mahilig talaga ako mag videoke. For this one, halos bago lahat ang playlist. Ang ginawa ko noong una, nagpa-poll kami sa page ko. So ang ginawa ko naman ngayon, gumawa ako ng dalawan playlist sa Spotify: isang senti at isang puro bands or fast songs. It took me three days to finalize the lineup. Hopefully magwork naman," he said.

(I love videoke. For this one, the playlist is almost all new. What I did at first was we did a poll on my page. So, I made two playlists on Spotify: one sentimental and one purely for bands or fast songs. It took me three days to finalize the lineup.)

"By requests naman is galing sa poll. They will vote via a QR code as soon as they enter the venue. We will find out a few minutes before the show. Then, six to seven people will sing with me on stage. We will have songs I don't normally sing pero lalagyan namin ng twists para maging tunog Ice."

(By request is from the poll. They will vote via a QR code as soon as they enter the venue. We will find out a few minutes before the show. Then, six to seven people will sing with me on stage. We will have songs I don't usually sing, but we will add twists to make them sound like Ice.)

Ice mentioned that he wants everyone to have a great time at the show as it is his birthday.

"I want everyone to enjoy it. I hope marami akong friends from the industry will celebrate it with me. Yung mga pwede kong hatakin sa stage," he said.

Ice remembered a song he disliked but added it to the request list. It was "You're Still The One" by Shania Twain, a song dedicated to his wife's former boyfriend.

"Nagpa-poll kami. Pumasok siya sa list ng songs ko. Binabantayan ko talaga. Sabi ko bakit nakakasama lagi itong song na ito?

"Mahilig ako sa mga kantang nakaka-relate ako. Whatever genre it is, kapag nakaka-relate ako, I will sing it. Lalo na kung gusto ko yung kanta na yun.

"Kapag pumasok sa poll tapos ayoko talaga yung song, kay kwento pa rin ako dyan.

"Yung ibang kanta talagang inuupuan namin. Pero yung 'You're Still The One,' sabi ko ok na yan. Hayaan na natin. Okay na yan. Naasar talaga ako sa song," Ice laughed.

New album

Ice said that he's ready to release an all-original album soon.

"Medyo natagalan yun. Of all my talents now, sa songwriting talaga insecure pa ako. Ewan ko kung bakit. When I released songs in the past, parang hindi naman hit yung mga sinusulat ko.

"But since my songs were based on personal experience, it was bound to be a hit. But now that I am in my 40s, siguro naman medyo mature na ako to handle that.

"Hindi na rin ako concern kung maghit siya or not. I want to share something with my fans. Finally, we have compiled 12 songs. Hopefully, it will be released this year," Ice said.

Ice said he had asked Liza to listen to his songs before their release. Previously, she used to ask his mom to check out his songs, but now it's Liza. "Buti na lang mataas ang taste niya. Kapag okay sa kanya, kampante ako. At alam ko magugustuhan ng ibang tao."

Amid the changing landscape of music, Ice said he promised himself to be authentic. "I don't want to do na hindi ako happy. Mataas yung respeto ko sa craft ko para lang sumubok ang trends. Malalaman n'yo rin sa akin kapag hindi ko gusto yung ginagawa ko kasi lalabas talaga siyang pangit.''

(I don't want to do anything I'm not happy with. I have high respect for my craft just to test trends. You'll also know from me when I don't like what I'm doing because it will come out really ugly.)

"So may mga songs na bago for me. But it takes sometime bago ko talaga siya ma-appreciate. But once na ma-appreciate ko na siya, ang dali-dali na. Feeling ko kasi waste ng time yun kapag hindi ko siya gusto."

(So there are songs that are new for me. But it will take some time before I can really appreciate it. But once I appreciate it, it's easy. I feel like it's a waste of time when I don't like him.)
