P17-M worth of high-grade marijuana seized at Clark Freeport Zone

Authorities seized around P17 million worth of high grade marijuana from Bangkok, Thailand during an operation at the Clark Freeport Zone in Pampanga, a police official said on Tuesday, Aug. 20.

Police Brig. Gen. Christopher Abrahano, director of the Philippine National Police-Aviation Security Group (PNP-Avsegroup), said the marijuana was discovered inside a wooden crate which was deliberately misdeclared as sofa sets.

“The crate has no actual sofa sets and when this was inspected, the marijuana was discovered,” said Abrahano, adding that the operation was carried out on Monday, Aug. 19.

“This came from Bangkok and the consignee is a Filipino,” he added.

The official said the wooden crate was tagged since Aug. 15 and was immediately scheduled for inspection.

During the inspection, authorities discovered 23 transparent plastic bags containing approximately 10.406 kilograms of high-grade marijuana kush.

Abrahano said follow-up operations are now being conducted to arrest the consignee.
