Baguio records 3,011 dengue cases with 7 deaths


BAGUIO CITY – This city logged 3,011 dengue cases from January 1 to August 1.

Seven fatalities were recorded.

The City Health Services Office (CHSO) said the first death was in February.  The rest was recorded last month.

The victims were a six-year-old girl, a nine-year-old boy, a one-year-old boy, a four-year-old girl, a 63-year-old man, a 59-year-old man, and a 38-year-old woman.

The number of cases was 462 percent higher than the same period last year.

The median age of patients was 23-years-old and the most affected age group was 11- to 20-years-old. Fifty one percent of patients were female.

Most affected barangays were Irisan, Bakakeng Central, Asin Road, Santo Tomas Proper, Camp 7, Gibraltar, Pinget, Loakan Proper, Pacdal, Middle Quirino Hill, and Bakakeng Norte.

The CHSO urged residents to strictly enforce measures to prevent the spread of dengue that usually occurs from June to October.

Mayor Benjamin Magalong ordered the intensified implementation of the anti-dengue ordinance (Ordinance 66-2016) and impose penalties on people who do not follow dengue control measures.
