Andion Fernandez-Ching has captivated audiences worldwide with her remarkable talent, versatility, and charm. The Filipina soprano started her musical journey in the Philippines, studying music at the University of the Philippines. She quickly made a name for herself, winning numerous local competitions, including the National Music Competition for Young Artists (NAMCYA). Her success led to her pursuing advanced studies in Germany, where she graduated with honors from Berlin’s Hochschule der Künste. She has been a soloist at Deutsche Oper Berlin since 2001.
Andion’s career highlights include accolades at the Operalia International Opera Competition and the Cardiff Singer of the World competition. She has performed key roles in iconic operas, such as Le nozze di Figaro, Carmen, and Die Zauberflöte, collaborating with distinguished conductors like Alberto Zedda and Kent Nagano.
A champion of Filipino talent globally, Andion’s deep connection to the Philippines remains strong. On Aug. 20, Andion will perform in “Hidden Musical Treasures of the Italian Baroque" at 6:30 p.m. at Y Space at the Yuchengco Museum. Under the direction of directed Dr. Renato Lucas, the performance will also feature the world-renowned talent of Filipina soprano Camille Lopez-Molina and a string quartet. Maestro Jeffrey Ching will also share a musicological commentary during the performance.
