Sun Life treats lucky policyholders to VIP viewing of this award-winning stage musical

The global financial services company understands Filipinos’ need to create more special bonds with their loved ones.

It has been 25 years since “Miss Saigon” was first staged in the Philippines. Through time, it has carved a spot in the local pop culture scene, not only for its good music and spectacular production but also for putting Filipino talents in the international spotlight. As it returned to the Philippines in 2024, it presented new faces and found a new home at The Theatre At Solaire. What stayed the same is the core of the story—its sense of “the ultimate sacrifice” and people yearning to live a better life, not only for themselves but also for the people they love.

The latter is something that Filipinos can relate to the most. Each day, Filipinos work hard to turn the “movie in their mind” into a reality. The goal is to give their family a chance at a better life. And to make it possible, many rely on the support provided by trusted financial services companies, like Sun Life.

As a leading financial services company in the country, Sun Life is on a mission to help Filipinos achieve their goals in life with its broad range of life insurance, health, and investment products. It also understands Filipinos’ need to create more special bonds with their loved ones. The recent run of “Miss Saigon” provided Sun Life the perfect opportunity to treat some of its policyholders to special tickets to watch the beloved musical.

“As we commit to our promise to be our clients’ Partner for Life, we hope to make the journey to their financial goals as delightful as it can be,” said Sun Life Chief Client Experience and Marketing Officer Carla Gonzalez-Chong. “Beyond the financial advice, product solutions, and servicing, we also strive to provide our clients with memorable experiences with their loved ones. At Sun Life, we believe that the promise of a brighter life can be enjoyed in the present while making choices to ensure that they remain confident about the future.”

Before witnessing “Miss Saigon,” Manila Bulletin was able to chat with some of its lucky clients as they shared their stories and experiences with Sun Life.

Hexcel David, a 29-year-old tax accountant, has been a client of Sun Life for over five years now. According to him, he first wanted to get an insurance plan for his mother to help secure her future. But he ended up getting one for himself instead. He chose the company as his Partner for Life, because of its track record in the industry.

“Sun Life has been in the industry for so long. It is a trusted brand. That’s one of the things I considered in finding an insurance company,” Hexcel said. “It is highly recommended by my friends.”

It was because of the pandemic that pushed Meca Ella Apolinar, to get an insurance plan for herself. She recalled being scared during that time because her father lost his job. The 24-year-old virtual assistant and scholar now feels secure, not only with her life but also her finances, since becoming part of the vast clientele of Sun Life. What she loves about the company are its flexible investment-linked policies and other benefits, as well as perks such as promos. A testament to that is joining and winning the VIP viewing of “Miss Saigon” after being with the company for less than a year.

“Sun Life is generous,” Ella said about the company’s treat. “It’s good that the one securing my life is also helping me to live my life.”

At the start of her career as a teacher, Trina Arrianne Manalili, 29, knew the value that comes from having insurance. Now, being a client of Sun Life for over seven years, she is not only living a life with less financial trouble, but she is also creating more meaningful moments with her loved ones thanks to the company’s perks.

“I’m happy that I got my insurance policy when I was young,” Trina said. “My investment-linked plan helped during the pandemic… Aside from setting aside money, you also get other benefits.”

This is not the first time Sun Life has treated its clients with perks and benefits. Earlier this year, one of its clients won an all-expense-paid trip to Singapore and saw Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour. Another client, Jale Monique Abellas, was awarded the ultimate summer trip to Boracay with her family.
