Sexagenarian farmer hacked to death by nephew


MARCOS, Ilocos Norte – A 61-year-old farmer was allegedly hacked to death by his nephew during a drinking spree in Barangay Escoda here on Tuesday night, August 13.

Police Chief Master Sgt. Leonardo Battulayan, Marcos deputy chief of police, identified the victim as Florendo Lorenzo.

Investigation disclosed that Lorenzo and the suspect, Raymundo Lorenzo, 54, had a misunderstanding during a drinking session in their neighbor’s house.

Raymundo went home to deescalate the situation but Lorenzo followed him, triggering a fistfight.

Lorenzo obtained a bolo from his tricycle and hacked the victim multiple times in the neck.

The victim was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead due to multiple hack wounds.

Police apprehended Raymundo after the incident.

Battulayan said the suspect is detained at the municipal jail and faces a murder case.
