The Manila City Council declared the Nuestra Señora de la Consolacion y Correa as the Patroness of Intramuros, Manila and bestowed on her the title of "Queen and Protectress of the Distinguished and Ever Loyal City."

The official proclamation will be held on September 8 during the Misa Mayor in honor of the Solemnity of Our Lady of Consolation and Cincture.

The City Council of Manila, headed by Vice Mayor John Marvin "Yul Servo" Nieto, passed Resolution No. 496, Series of 2024, which was sponsored by Councilor Ricardo Isip upon the endorsement of the Intramuros Administration headed by Atty. Joan Padilla.

The City Council said the Walled City of Manila or Intramuros used to be not just the seat of government but also the center of faith where seven Roman Catholic churches were built during the Spanish period. The oldest of these churches was the San Agustin Church which was built in the year 1607 and survived numerous natural disasters, the Philippine revolution, and the Second World War.

During World War II, all of these churches were completely destroyed with the exception of the San Agustin Church which houses the more than 300-year-old image of Nuestra Señora de la Consolacion.

After the war, all the churches were relocated outside Intramuros with the exception of San Agustin Church.

The La Consolacion, the City Council said, serves as a silent witness to the beginnings, flourishing, destruction and eventual redevelopment of Intramuros.

The City Council said it recognizes the historical, cultural, and social value of the centuries-old devotion of the people of the Walled City of Manila to Nuestra Señora de la Consolacion y Correa and aims to instill among its citizens the appreciation and preservation of the city’s rich history and cultural heritage.

San Agustin Church is also known as the Archdiocesan Shrine of Nuestra Senora de la Consolacion y Correa. The shrine's Rector is Rev. Fr. Edwin Hari, Order of Saint Augustine (OSA).
