Wayward truck kills street sweeper, injures 10 in Capiz

ILOILO CITY â€“ Another deadly road accident occurred in Panay Island when a 10-wheel truck encountered mechanical trouble and crashed into a crowded area, killing a street sweeper and injuring 10 people in Ivisan, Capiz on Tuesday, August 13.

Police identified the victim as Maricel Sarjento, 39.

Investigation said the truck driven by alias Ryan on its way to Kalibo, Aklan from Balasan, Iloilo to deliver construction materials suddenly lost its brakes on a busy road in Barangay Santa Cruz and rammed 14 motorcycles, seven tricycles, two jeepneys, a car, a multi-cab, and a pickup truck.

The injured were taken to the Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital in the provincial capital Roxas City.

Hours earlier, two children died and 20 persons were injured in a jeepney crash on a mountain road in Barangay Cagay, Calinog town, Iloilo province.
