PARIS – On another sweltering day and on the final round, Bianca Pagdanganan provided a drama of her own in the women’s golf competition with a spirited fightback in the Paris Olympics on Saturday, Aug. 10, at the Le Golf National in Guyancourt.

But the charming Pagdanganan ran out of holes, falling by one stroke to forge at least a playoff for bronze medal.

Thanks to a birdie-birdie finish, Pagdanganan turned in a 68 and finished tied for 4th to 6th places after starting the day tied for 13th.

She finished with a 282, four shots behind eventual winner Lydia Ko of New Zealand.

Her long but determined chase – not to mention the grinding pressure – proved too much for the Tokyo Games veteran to handle, with Ko completing her redemption bid after a silver medal-finish in the Tokyo Games.

Showing nerves of steel, Ko also birdied the 18th to finish with a 71 and win the gold medal by two over Germany's Esther Henseleit who submitted the day’s best of 66. Ko tallied a four-day aggregate of 278.

Chinese Lin Xiyu also birdied the final hole for a 69 and a 281.
