I was recently invited to have a sneak peek of the upcoming Deadpool and Wolverine movie. This rare opportunity was part of a press conference in Seoul, Korea, featuring stars Hugh Jackman, Ryan Reynolds, and director Shawn Levy.

All of this was part of promoting the movie, though I couldn’t help but think that it was unnecessary. Having Hugh Jackman reprise his role as Wolverine is enough for most viewers to say, ‘Shut up and take my money!’ Yours truly included.

The announcement trailer broke the internet many times over, and the full trailer, which dropped during the Superbowl, racked up a mind-boggling 365 million views in its first 24 hours, beating out Spider-Man No Way Home’s already impressive 355 million.

Several questions are on people’s minds, such as whether it will still be a Deadpool movie or if it will somehow be toned down to fit more into Marvel and Disney’s sensitivities. Director Shawn Levy assures everyone that the film still very much has that Deadpool DNA.

In fact, he said that going into the project, Disney fully understood that it was going to be the first R-rated MCU film and was ok with that. Levy also clarified that he approached the project as a fan of Deadpool and Wolverine and that he “was never under any pressure to dilute Deadpool.”

Ryan quickly added that they never came to the script trying to make it as audacious, explicit, or rated R as possible. It was always about telling the story in an authentic way.

And what about Wolverine? Many have wondered how this will affect the character’s seeming end in 2017’s Logan. Hugh's words may help put this fear to rest. He says they all worked to present a version of Wolverine that was both interesting and satisfying. And there you have it.
