Caritas Manila launches donation drive for calamity victims


Caritas Manila, the social action arm of the Archdiocese of Manila, has launched a donation drive to help those who were affected by the intense flooding in Metro Manila and nearby areas brought about by typhoon Carina and the southwest monsoon or “habagat.”

Caritas Manila executive director and Radio Veritas president Fr. Anton Pascual said they are closely coordinating with the affected dioceses so assistance can be provided immediately.

“The Church is ready to help particularly during times of disaster. We are closely coordinating with the social action centers of the affected dioceses so we can respond quickly,” said Fr. Pascual over Radio Veritas on Thursday, July 25.

Caritas Manila provided assistance to about 500 families in Baseco, Tondo on Wednesday, June 24, at the height of the intense downpour.

“I continue to appeal to all kindhearted individuals to help those who were affected by the flooding, those in evacuation centers and those who cannot yet return to their homes. Please support our donation efforts by sending clothes, food items, hygiene kits, and water. Caritas Manila continues to intensify its relief, restoration and rehabilitation programs particularly during times like these,” said Fr. Pascual.

Church leaders have likewise called on the faithful to help in whatever way they can all those who were badly affected by the calamity.
