The Philippine Sports Commission will host a fun run dubbed "Walk, Run, and Roll" at the University of the Philippines Academic Oval in Quezon City on Saturday, July 20.

It is aimed at advocating for the rights of persons with disabilities (PWDs) and promoting equal participation in sports.

In partnership with the National Council on Disability Affairs, the event has attracted around 1,000 runners, including PWDs, their families, and advocates.

The run starts at 5 a.m.

Among the registered participants is Cendy Asusano, who will compete in the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games this August.

“It fosters inclusivity, promotes physical fitness, and encourages community engagement, particularly among persons with disabilities and their families,” said Commissioner Walter Torres, who is the assigned commissioner for the project.

Last June 19, President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. declared July 17-23 as National Disability Rights Week through Proclamation No. 597, affirming the country’s commitment to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD).

PSC Chairman Richard Bachmann emphasized that the sports agency is committed to leveraging sports as a means to raise public awareness and advocate for meaningful causes.

“Our advocacy indeed is welcomed by everyone and I am excited for the positive results this project can produce in the long run,” Bachmann stated.
