The infant was found around 10 p.m. by Alexander Briones, 18, a resident of Barangay Punturin.

Briones was sorting through garbage for items to sell when he came across a green plastic bag containing the baby's lifeless body.

He added that the umbilical cord and placenta of the baby were still attached.
Briones promptly reported the discovery to barangay officials, who then informed the Valenzuela City Police Station (VCPS) Substation 7. It was subsequently referred to the Station Investigation Unit.

Following the report, operatives formed a task force to track down the individual responsible for abandoning the baby.

They reviewed closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the area, which led to identifying the suspect.

CCTV footage showed a woman carrying a green plastic bag similar to the one found in the garbage.

The barangay watchmen identified the suspect, who was apprehended on Friday morning, July 19 outside the Metropolitan Trial Court (MTC) in Valenzuela.

Authorities discovered that the suspect had been previously arrested on May 24 for estafa.

Police identified the suspect as alias “Daizy.”

The Northern Police District (NPD) Forensic Unit conducted an autopsy and DNA examination on the infant.

The suspect faces charges under Article 258 of the Revised Penal Code (RPC) for abortion practiced by the woman herself and will undergo a gynecological examination, police said.
