BACOLOD CITY - The municipal government of La Castellana in Negros Occidental enforced a curfew starting on Friday, June 7, due to the eruption of Kanlaon volcano.
Mayor Rhummyla Nicor-Mangilimutan issued an executive order on Thursday, June 6, imposing a curfew from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. in all public places in the town.
Mangilimutan stressed that there is a need to regulate public and non-essential activities in the town to ensure safety of residents.
She noted that there is a need to support the anti-criminality effort of the police during these times.
The curfew shall cover only individuals, however, offices, establishments, places of worship, and other establishments are encouraged to adjust their operating hours accordingly, the executive order said.
Mangilimutan said that all government workers who are on duty during curfew hours, all employees of private offices or establishments who are also rendering work within the curfew hours, medical doctors and veterinarians who need to work, workers of public utility companies conducting construction, maintenace, or emergency activities, and all medical, emergency, and disaster case are exempted.
Presentation of employee’s identification card of an establishment operating within the curfew hours shall be required for individuals who are inspected on the streets or stopped in checkpoint.
Mangilimutan stressed that the municipality is under close monitoring due to lahar which occurred in several barangays.
The mudflow brought about by heavy rains on Wednesday, June 5, prompted the municipal government to impose forced evacuation in some sitios of Barangay Biak na Bato.
