Blue alert raised in Western Visayas following Kanlaon eruption


ILOILO CITY – Western Visayas has been placed under blue alert following the eruption of Mount Kanlaon in Negros Oriental on June 3.

“This is to intensify coordination for response and monitoring of possible effects,” said Raul E. Fernandez, director of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD)-6.

Fernandez, chairman of the Western Visayas Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC)-6, outlined the clusters of government agencies in the emergency response for Kanlaon Volcano in Memorandum No. 45-2024.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is the head for the cluster on camp coordination and management as well as distribution of food  and non-food items.  

For logistics, OCD-6 is the lead agency.

Units of the 3rd Infantry Division (ID) of the Philippine Army, Philippine Air Force, Police Regional Office-6, Philippine Coast Guard, and Bureau of Fire and Protection (BFP) are working for clusters in-charge of search, rescue, or retrieval.

The Department of Health  is in charge of health.

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) is in charge of emergency communications while PRO-6 is for law and order.
