Fresh from winning two gold medals in Philippine Judo Open, Sy-Tancontian stamped his class and beat French Didier Biansomba in just 16 seconds in the men’s -98kg class.

In the women’s 80kg finals, Yap outperformed Biansomba’s compatriot Joannie Delbar, 4-1, to rule the category.

Last March, Sy-Tancontian and Yap went triumphant as well in the Dutch Open where they snatched gold and bronze medals, respectively.

Meanwhile, Mark Striegl snagged the bronze medal in the men’s 70kg after defeating hometown bet Maxime Dubois-Millot, 1-1 (2-0).

The team went home with 2 gold and 1 bronze medals which nearly tied the three-gold medal haul in Dalfsen, Netherlands last year.

Up next for the Nationals are regional competitions including Sambo Bandung Open in Indonesia on June 6; Asia-Oceania Sambo Championships in Macau on June 29-30; and Asian Indoor Martial Arts Games this November in Bangkok, Thailand.
