Zamboanga rips Imus, revs up MPBL drive

Zamboanga Master Sardines dumped Imus Agimat, 110-71, on Friday, June 28, to rev up its drive in the MPBL (Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League) Sixth Season at the Olivarez College Gymnasium in Paranaque.

With 14 of 15 fielded players scoring, Zamboanga led throughout and was never challenged en route to its 12th win against 3 losses in the round-robin elimination phase of the 29-team tournament.

Robin Julian Nayve paced Zamboanga with 16 points, five rebounds and three assists, followed by Joseph Gabayni with 14 points and five rebounds, Pedrito Galanza with 11 points and Jayboy Solis with 10 points plus five rebounds.

Facing the league's doormat, Zamboanga opted to rest Top Gun Jaycee Marcelino with hardly any effect as the Zamboanguenos dominated the shaded lane, 53-38 in rebounds, displayed cohesion, 35-15 in assists, and connected on 11 of 47 triple attempts.

Imus suffered its 15th straight defeat and formally bowed out of contention for a playoffs spot.
Earlier, the Sarangani Marlins drubbed the Bicolandia Oragons, 101-55, to improve to 4-11.

With six Marlins posting twin digits, Sarangani outscored Bicolandia in every quarter, pulling down the Oragons to 2-13.

Jaymark Mallari tallied 15 points, Larce Christian Sunga 14, Ryan Isaac Sual 13, Coy Alves and Yukihiro Kawamura 12 each, and Marvin Hayes 10.

No Oragon was able to submit twin digits.

The MPBL goes to the FilOIl Flying V Center on Friday with Quezon City battling Marikina at 4 p.m., Muntinlupa tackling Pangasinan at 6 p.m., and Binan tangling with host San Juan at 8 p.m.
