K-pop girl group Mamamoo’s Solar impressed Filipino fans as she held her solo concert in Manila.
Her "Solar 2nd Concert [COLOURS] in Manila" was held June 16 at The Theatre at Solaire Resort.
Besides surprising fans with her two performances of Pinoy pop group BINI’s “Pantropiko,” Solar (real name Kim Yong-sun) dazzled the audience with her own songs and covers coupled with her sense of humor. She also told the story about the time when she lived and studied in the Philippines when she was young.

Solar opened the show with “Colors,” “Raw” and “Spit It Out” followed by “Mellow,” “Honey Honey,” “Honey Bee” and “Honey.”
“Magandang gabi. Kamusta po? (Good evening. How are you?) I am happy to see you all here,” she greeted the audience, adding that Manila was the first overseas city of her “Colours” tour.
She remembered Mamamoo’s first concert in Manila, “My Con,” held on Feb. 12 last year at the Araneta Coliseum.
“I remember Philippine Yongsoons during that time. The best kayo (You are the best). That’s why I really wanted to come back here to Manila. Manila’s concert was unforgettable. This is my second solo concert after my first solo concert ‘Solar Gamsung Blossom’ back in 2018. Six years have passed. I’m here with a better performance,” she said.

Solar also performed “Where the Wind Rises,” originally released in 1994 by the late singer Kim Gwang-seok and was used as a song in the hit drama “Reply 1988.”
She continued with her set with “Only Longing Grows,”Love Has Gone,” “Big Booty,” “Can't Take My Eyes Off You,” “Blues,” “C'est la Vie,” “The Girl I Used to Be,” “One Last Time,” “Easy Peasy,” “Star Wind Flower Sun” and “Hello.”
Her set also included “But I,” “It's Been a Long Time,” “Unholy,” “Blue Bird,” “Bohemian,” “Paradise,” and “I Will Give You All My Love.”
One of the memorable moments was when Solar surprised fans by entering the venue from the side entrance when she started singing “It's Been a Long Time.” As she sang, she interacted with the audience before going to the stage to finish the number.
“I actually wanted to be near Yongsoons. It was really fun because you guys were jumping all together. You guys are the best. The best kayo,” she said.

Living, studying in the Philippines
Solar told the audience that she studied in the Philippines when she was young.
“At the time I went to school. I went to the Philippines’ Manila grade school,” she said but could not remember the name. “It was a long time ago. Maybe an international school.”
She added, “In that school there was a pizza place. At the time I didn’t know the school was really nice. Come to think about it now, I think that school was really nice. I have that memory of that pizza being really delicious. At the time, outside [the school], someone was selling eggs [balut]. I was really surprised. At the time, I couldn’t buy it but I was really curious. Where do you buy that?”
Solar also revealed one unforgettable incident when she lived in an apartment in Manila.
“I lived in an apartment. I went to the bathroom. I sat on the toilet (bowl). I think it was a lizard. In my bottom the lizard was there. I was so surprised. So just as it is, I just went out. I went out of the house and went to the neighbor,” she said.
She continued, “The neighbor’s door was open. I went in and there was a lady in front. I got into eye contact with her in that situation and the person was really surprised. I was also surprised looking at her. With that surprise, I had to go back to the house. This is one of the unforgettable episodes that I had. I’m not sure whether it was a lizard or not. It had a lot of legs,” she recalled.

Fan video, Mamamoo’s 10th anniversary
A fan video shown during the concert about her and Mamamoo’s journey made Solar emotional.
“Oh my gosh. I’m a bit teary-eyed because I didn’t know Manila Yongsoons would prepare this kind of event. So the video was even back when I was a trainee. Looking at those videos, I’m really, really thankful. I’m not the kind of person to cry actually. My eyes were getting teary-eyed so I had to hold it,” she said.
She added, “I came here to Manila with a lot of expectations and excitement. I guess the only way to repay them was stages [performances] later on. Ang ganda ninyo. Sobrang saya ko. The best kayo. (You are beautiful. I’m so happy. You are the best).”
Mamamoo celebrated their 10th anniversary on June 18 and during the concert, fans requested Solar for the group’s comeback with a new album.
“I’m still lacking a lot but it’s Mamamoo’s 10th anniversary. I’m really happy because we can be together in this meaningful year. Comeback? About Mamamoo’s album, I’m also not sure. Because I’m not the only one to release it. Philippine Yongsoons are waiting for it desperately. I will try my best,” she said.

During the concert, fans sang along with her.
“So today I handed the mic to you guys a lot. You are singing well. I think Philippine Yongsoons are really good at singing,” she said.
As she ended her concert, Solar took a group photo and told fans, “Whenever I miss Philippine Yongsoons, I will take out this picture. Till I come back the next time, please wait for me. Ingat kayo lahat (Take care). See you soon.”
