50 Things Koreans Like: Lim Young-woong, IU, BTS top favorite singer survey


Gallup Korea released the results of a survey about the 50 Things Koreans Like in celebration of its 17th anniversary. 

The survey covered many things including favorite singer, talent, movie actor, entertainment broadcaster, comedian, presidents, luxury brands, OTT platforms, sports players and businessmen. 

Gallup Korea conducted the survey from March 22 to April 5 among 1,777 respondents aged 13 and older in South Korea (excluding Jeju Island).

For favorite singer, trot artist Lim Young-woong grabbed the No. 1 spot with 10.3 percent. 

IU placed second with 9 percent followed by BTS in third place with 4.9 percent, trot singer Na Hoona in fourth place with 4 percent, and NewJeans at No. 5 with 3.5 percent.

Placing sixth to 10th are trot singer Jang Yoon Jeong, 3.4 percent; trot singer Jin Sung, 2.7 percent; trot singers Young Tak and Song Ga-in, 2.4 percent; and BLACKPINK, 2.2 percent.

Other singers who got more than 1 percent are Lee Chan-won, (2 percent), Sung Si-kyung (1.9 percent), Kim Yon-ja (1.6 percent), Kim Ho-jung and Cho Yong-pil (over 1.5 percent), Lee Hyo-ri (1.3 percent), Lyn (1.2 percent), Jeon Yu-jin, IVE (above 1.1 percent), Jang Min-ho, Lee Sung-chul, Lee Moon-se, and Lee Mi-ja (1 percent and above). 

Among male respondents aged 13 to 18, IU is No. 1 with 18 percent followed by NewJeans, 13 percent; BLACKPINK, 8 percent; BTS, 7 percent; and Le Sserafim, 6 percent. 

Among those from 19 to 29 years old, IU is No. 1 with 22 percent followed by NewJeans, 14 percent; BTS, 9 percent; BLACKPINK, 4 percent; and IVE, 4 percent. 

IU is again No. 1 among those in their 30s with 28 percent followed by NewJeans, 5 percent; Lim Young-woong, 5 percent; Lee Hyo-ri, 4 percent; and Sung Si-kyung, 3 percent. 

Among the respondents in their 40s, IU is No. 1 with 11 percent followed by Lim Young-woong, 7 percent; Sung Si-kyung, 5 percent; BTS, 5 percent; and  Jang Yoon Jeong, 4 percent; 

For the respondents in their 50s and 60s, Jang Yoon Jeong and Na Hoona are No. 1 with 9 percent and 16 percent, respectively. 

Among female respondents aged 13 to 18, BTS is No. 1 with 20 percent followed by IU, 10 percent; NewJeans, 10 percent; BLACKPINK, 6 percent; Bibi, 3 percent; and BTS’ V, 3 percent; 

19 to 29 years old (female) - IU, 15 percent; BTS, 12 percent; NewJeans, 11 percent; BLACKPINK, 7 percent; and Seventeen, 5 percent.

30s (female) - IU, 18 percent; BTS, 15 percent; Lim Young-woong, 6 percent’ Lee Hyo-ri, 5 percent; AKMU, 3 percent; and Sung Si-kyung, 3 percent.
