Malolos City holds 'Tara, Basa' tutorial program

The City of Malolos, Bulacan conducted its reading advocacy "Tara, Basa" Tutorial Program (TBTP) on Tuesday, June 18, which was attended by the first batch of college students from the Bulacan State University (BSU).

The program was held in cooperation with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), the City Government of Malolos through the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), the Department of Education (DepEd, Region III, and Ateneo Center for Educational Development. 

According to the Malolos City Information Office (MCIO), the program aims to strengthen the support to the family and community for elementary students who have reading difficulties and provide assistance to college students from low-income families and currently enrolled in State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) which will conduct the tutoring sessions for 20 days. 

Some of the projects under the TBTP are tutorial sessions for struggling/non-readers elementary students; cash-for-work for families; capability building for learning facilitators; youth development workers; sessions with parents; cash-for-work for learning facilitators, and youth workers.

There are a total of 13,188 incoming Grade II learners to be taught by 1,319 college students with a 1:10 ratio, and there will be 264 college students who will become Youth Development Workers (YDW) who will lead the Mother-Father Teacher Session for the parents of 13,188 learners with 1:50 ratio.

Rowena Regine Andrada from the Ateneo Center for Educational Development shared tips on teaching, listening, speaking, reading, and children's writing to make their learning method effective and sharpen the skills of the students who will teach the children. 

The teachers are Bachelors of Secondary Education; Bachelors of Elementary Education; Bachelors of Technology Education, and other related courses.

It will be recalled that the City Government of Malolos, BSU, and the DepEd signed on March 19, the agreement that will form a holistic social welfare and development model of the TBMP.
