For Albay 1st district Rep. Edcel Lagman, Vice President Sara Duterte herself had admitted that she was a "liability to teachers and students" during the two years that she held the position of Department of Education (DepEd) chief.

"The resignation of Vice President Sara Duterte as secretary of the [DepEd] will hopefully lead to the solution of the alarming crisis in Philippine education," Lagman said in a statement Wednesday, June 19, mere hours after the lady official personally tendered her resignation in Malacañang.

"No less than Vice President Duterte herself said that her resignation is 'dala ng tunay na malasakit para sa ating mga guro at kabataang Pilipino (due to my genuine concern for our teachers and the Filipino youth)', which means that her incumbency was a liability to teachers and students," he said.

Lagman continued: "It is hoped that her replacement will come from the ranks of experienced and dedicated educators who can efficiently steer and professionally manage the educational system of the country."

President Marcos installed Vice President Duterte as DepEd chief shortly after their respective majorly vote victories in the May 2022 national elections.

Lagman is the president of the Liberal Party and is a self-styled "independent minority" congressman in the House of Representatives.
