DPWH asked to finish Bacolod economic highway by third quarter

BACOLOD CITY – Bacolod Rep. Greg Gasataya on Tuesday, June 18, said that he has asked the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to finish the construction of the Bacolod Economic Highway (BEH) by the third quarter of this year.

Gasataya said construction started in 2017 during his first term in Congress and the section from from Barangay Sum-ag to Barangay Bata should be passable  by the next quarter.

“We’ve been pushing for this request with them. If they can do it earlier, the better,” he added.

He, however, said that they are still awaiting the final assessment from the DPWH regarding the development of the  project.

The BEH is 21 kilometers long and covers Barangays Sum-ag, Cabug, Felisa, Handumanan, Mansilingan, Granada, Estefania, Mandalagan, and Bata, Gasataya said.

Gasataya said that he is set to meet the DPWH within this week to discuss the matter.

He said the BEH project aims to open a new growth for this city, and decongest the area at Circumferential Road.

“Naturally, it will promote the economy, tourism, and other business opportunities,” he said.

Construction is ongoing in Barangays Mansilingan, Granada, and Bata but other areas are now passable, Gasataya said.
