Pray for Philippines' peace, safety—VP Sara on Eid'l Adha


Vice President Sara Duterte has encouraged Muslim communities to take the solemn occasion of Eid'l Adha to pray for the country's stability, peace, and safety, especially over calamities and tragedies.

"Gamitin natin ang pagkakataong ito para ipagdasal na ang Pilipinas ay laging maging matatag, mapayapa, at ligtas sa mga kalamidad at trahedya (Let us take this opportunity to pray for the Philippines to always be stable, peaceful, and safe from calamities and tragedies)," Duterte sais in her message on the observance of Eid'l Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice on Monday, June 17.

The Vice President urged them to remember and apply to one's life the essence of sacrifice, gratitude, and humility.

She added that it is important to spread the spirit of Eid'l Adha, especially to people in need of help.

"Mahalaga na mapalaganap natin ang diwa ng Eid al-Adha ngayong marami sa ating mga kababayan ang nangangailangan ng ating kabutihang loob, kawang-gawa, at malasakit (It is to important to spread the spirit of Eid al-Adha now that many of our fellowmen need our kindness and help)," Duterte said.

"Ang aming pakikiisa sa pagdiriwang na ito ay tanda ng ating ugnayan bilang isang bansa na mas pinatibay ng ating paggalang, pagtanggap, at pagmamahal sa isa't isa sa kabila ng magkaibang salita, relihiyon o paniniwala (Our solidarity for this celebration is a symbol of our connection as one nation strengthened by respect, acceptance, and love for one another amid differences in language, religion, and beliefs)," the Vice President added.

Eid’I Adha is a major holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide for three to four days with most of them attending the special prayers at major mosques and Islamic centers throughout the world.

It’s the second of two great Muslim festivals, the first being Eid al-Fitr.
