More than 6,000 muslims gathered to pray and celebrate Eid'l Adha or the Feast of the Sacrifice at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila on Sunday, June 16.

According to Manila Police District (MPD) Chief Arnold Thomas Ibay, around 150 policemen were deployed to the Burnham Green fronting the Quirino Grandstand.

Meanwhile, several elements of MPD were also deployed to other mosques, particularly the Manila Golden Mosque and San Andres Sports Complex where the same celebration were held.

He said that there was no untoward incident reported in all of the areas of celebration.

Eid'l Adha is considered the largest of the two important holidays celebrated by Muslims around the world which usually lasts three to four days.

Malacañang Palace has declared June 17, 2024 a regular holiday in observance of Eid'l Adha, through Proclamation No. 579, signed by Executive Secretary Lucas P. Bersamin on June 4.

The date of this year’s Eid’l Adha was chosen based on the recommendation of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos following the Hijrah Islamic Lunar Calendar.
