Gilas Pilipinas soldiered on and humbled Mongolia in the finals, 21-12, to complete its sweep in Asia 2 - Stop 5 of the FIBA 3×3 U23 Nations League at the Fengfeng Mining Area Museum in Handan Shi, China Saturday, June 15.

Noy Remogat, as expected, was splendid on the offensive end, firing seven points against the Mongolians as the Nationals went unblemished in their daily leg task for the first time in the tournament.

The triumph in the leg earned them 60 Tour Points (TP) for a total of 340 and good for third place in the men’s conference standings.

Mongolia remains as the No. 1 squad with 460 points followed by Japan with 360. Only the top team will barge into the Nations League finals.

The new UP recruit had a strong support in the final round, with Patrick Sleat backing him up with six while Art Roque and JM Tulabut added 5 and 3, respectively.

Before advancing to the finals, Gilas outhustled host China (20-17) and continued its brilliance as it escaped Japan (19-18).

Mongolia, meantime, survived Kazakhstan (20-19) then crushed Turkmenistan (21-12) to set up a finals meeting with the Philippines.

The next leg will be crucial for the Nationals as they aim to boost their points and get the sole spot to the tournament finale. They will face Turkmenistan and Mongolia in the sixth and last stop Sunday, June 16, at the same venue.

Meanwhile, Gilas Women bowed to China (14-7) then vented their ire on Japan (21-15) in the second game.

The PH women’s squad, which is made up of Angelica Surada, Elaine Etang, Karl Ann Pingol and Camille Clarin, failed to reach the final round where the Japanese side outlasted Mongolia, 16-14, to rule the distaff side.

The Filipinas totaled 310 TP for fifth place, far from top seed China (440) and Japan (410).

Up next for Gilas Women in Stop 6 are Turkmenistan and Mongolia.
