Still reeling from losses against the Dominican Republic and Australia, the Blu Boys rose from the ashes and banked on the superb pitching performance of 18-year-old Jehanz Coro for their first win in three matches.

Coro went the distance and gave up only three hits, one run and three walks, while striking out five batters.

Mark Sarmiento also spelled the difference by going 3-for-3 at the plate with one RBI and one run scored, as well as Melvin De Castro, who also sealed the deal with his own one run scored.

ASAPHIL President Jean Henri Lhuillier lauded the efforts of the Blu Boys.

"I have always believed in the Blu Boys. Their win is a testament to their hard work, perseverance and dedication. I am incredibly proud of their performance (today)," said Lhuillier.

The Cebuana Lhuillier-backed Blu Boys hope to sustain their momentum in a doubleheader on Sunday, June 15, against Venezuela at 9 a.m. and Czechia at 12 noon (local time).

Prior to the feat, the Blu Boys yielded to Dominican Republic, 5-2, on opening day Thursday, June 13, then fell short in a tightly-contested match against reigning champion Australia, 5-4, on Friday, June 14.

At press time, Dominican Republic currently leads the standings with a 3-0 card and is playing Venezuela, which totes a 2-0 mark.

Mexico’s loss tied them with the Blu Boys at 1-2, followed by Australia (1-2) and Czechia (0-2), which are also playing at press time.

The tournament offers two berths to the 2025 World Cup in Prince Albert, Canada.
