When to use Vitamin C in your skincare regimen: Insights from a dermatologist

And do men need to use more, or just the same amount as female users?

Vitamin C has been clinically proven to improve not just one’s immunity but also to help address skin concerns. No wonder several skincare brands have made products with active Vitamin C ingredients.

However, for some, using products with these vitamins can cause stinging sensations that may lead to redness and irritation, especially for those with sensitive skin. With that in mind, Manila Bulletin Lifestyle asked board-certified dermatologist Dr. Corie Rodas when the right time and age to start introducing Vitamin C-infused products into a skincare routine is.

According to Dr. Rodas, it depends on the patient's skin concerns and how their skin reacts to the products. In some cases, she said, it can even be recommended for teenagers dealing with skin problems that can be addressed by Vitamin C-infused products.

“Certain age like adolescence and teenagers can start having acne and develop inflammatory pigmentation,” Dr. Rodas told Manila Bulletin Lifestyle during the launch of QuickFX Sen-C Bright line. “Then we can try addressing those issues by giving brightening agents such as Vitamin C serum, as long as the patient’s skin can tolerate it.”

We also asked Dr. Rodas if there’s a difference in the amount of products a man or woman should apply when using products with active ingredients like the said vitamin.

“It depends on your skin type,” she said. “Men can handle higher dosage or percentage of Vitamin C. However, a higher percentage doesn’t come with more effective products. The key is consistency when using a product.”

QuickFX’s new Sen-C Bright is a range of Vitamin C products made for people with sensitive skin. It has a unique blend of pure Vitamin C and Vitamin Tree Water — a duo mixed and formulated to deliver brightening results without compromising on comfort.

The range comes with three hero products: overnight serum, micellar water, and serum cream. It is now available at Watsons online and at Watsons stores nationwide.
