The Alas Girls, mentored by Japanese coach Taka Minowa, displayed their aggressive form and shrugged off the Aussies' last-minute fightback in the battle for third place honors.

It was a fitting follow up from the women's team's historic bronze medal finish in the AV Challenge Cup two weeks ago.

The Alas Girls came close to booking a championship berth but lost to Indonesia in straight sets the day before.

The team is composed of National University Nazareth School stalwarts Bubay Belen, Denesse Daylisan, Akeyla Bartolabac and Harlyn Serneche, as well as University of Santo Tomas upstarts Chas Pepito, Avril Bron, Kimberly Rubin, Jaila Adrao, Maile Salang, Aneeza Santos and Lianne Penuliar.

Completing the crew were De La Salle-Zobel’s Gillian Marzan and Kings' Montessori’s Ashley Macalinao.

Up next for the squad will be the 15th Asian Women’s U18 Championship four days later from June 16 to 23 also in Thailand.
