House Speaker Romualdez to lead Independence Day rites in Bulacan


House Speaker and Leyte 1st District Representative Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez is set to join thousands of Bulakenyos in the commemoration of the 126th anniversary of the Philippine Independence at the historic grounds of Barasoain Church in this city on Wednesday, June 12.

Romualdez, together with with local officials headed by Governor Daniel R. Fernando, will lead the flag-raising ceremony, oath to the Philippine flag, and wreath-laying activity at the monument of Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo.

Fernando invited the Bulakenyos to join and do activities that will renew their sense of patriotism, including visiting museums that are open even during holidays.

“Upang magkaroon ang bawat isa sa atin ng pagkakataon na makiisa sa mga gawain ng Araw ng Kalayaan, taun-taon itong idinedeklara na walang pasok, kaya naman marapat lamang natin itong gamitin sa paraan na makapagpapalago ng ating pagmamahal sa ating bansa at sa ating kalayaan,” (In order for each of us to have the opportunity to participate in the activities of Independence Day, every year it is declared a holiday, which is why we should only use it in a way that can grow our love for our country and our freedom)," the governor said.

All National Historical Commission of the Philippines Bulacan Cluster museums -- including the Museo ng Republika ng 1899 (Barasoain Church Historical Landmark) and Museo ng Kasaysayang Pampulitika ng Pilipinas (Casa Real) in the City of Malolos, Museo ni Marcelo H. Del Pilar in Bulakan, and Museo ni Mariano Ponce in the City of Baliwag -- are open on June 12.

Meanwhile, as part of the celebration, the provincial government of Bulacan through the Provincial Public Employment Services Office (PPESO) held a pre-independence day job fair at Waltermart Malolos in Brgy. Longos in this city on Tuesday, June 11, with over 2,000 job vacancies from 25 local employers.
