“The search is ongoing. I have seen two or three candidates,” he said adding that a replacement should be found soon “because I do not intend to stay in this seat for longer. I do hope that by the start of next year we will have a visibility of the CEO position.”

Pangilinan also noted that the new CEO will have to be trained for the position because “It’s not a simple business. It’s not a simple organization.”

Panlilio, who has led telecommunications giant as president and CEO for nearly three years, resigned from his post last December due to health reasons.

However, he maintains his role as a director within PLDT, Smart and MediaQuest Holdings Inc., chairman of Maya Bank and Bonifacio Communications Corp., director of Multisys Technologies Corp. and MultiPay, president of MVP Sports Foundation, trustee of Asian Carriers Conference, and member of the Management Association of the Philippines.

Pangilinan assumed the role of president and CEO of PLDT and Smart since Jan. 1 this year “until a new President and CEO is appointed.”
