FDA joins forces with USAID to promote quality-assured medicines


The Philippine Food and Drug Administration (FDA) partnered with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to explore critical initiatives outlined within the Promoting the Quality of Medicines Plus (PQM+) Program.

In a statement on May 8, the FDA underscored that this initiative will be a crucial step for the regulatory agency's efforts to achieve the targeted World Health Organization- Global Benchmarking Tool (WHO GBT) Maturity Level.

The said meeting was led by FDA Director General Dr. Samuel A. Zacate on May 6, in collaboration with distinguished representatives from the USAID.

"The PQM+ program has been USAID's intervention in helping regulatory authorities by strengthening local production of quality-assured essential medicines in the country," the FDA said.

This international collaboration underscores the FDA's commitment to excellence in regulatory practices and harmonization with global standards, fostering greater resilience in public health systems and ensuring universal access to high-quality medications.
