Toto Golez, chairman of the Soccsksargen Press Club, commended the Police Regional Office-12 led by Police Brig. Gen Percival Placer for arresting Junnel Gerozaga, 33, laborer, in Barangay Saguing, Makilala, North Cotabato on May 2.

Gerozaga was one the principal suspects in the murder of Ed Dizon, a radio anchor of Brigada News on July 10, 2019. The victim was driving his car when he was waylaid by motorcycle-riding gunmen on Quezon Boulevard.

Golez said the arrest of Gerozaga was significant as it coincided with World Press Freedom Day on May 3.

Jazztein Jubelag, president of the PRO-12 Press Corps, thanked the Cotabato Police Provincial Office under Police Col. Gilberto Tuzon, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, and the Regional Special Operations Group who served the arrest warrant against the suspect.

"The local media community in the Soccsksargen region thanks the police for the successful arrest of the suspect who remained unscathed the past years," Jubelag said.

Police are hot on the trail of Dante Tabusares, alias Bong Encarnacion, the suspected mastermind in the killing of Dizon.

Investigation said Dizon earned the ire of Tabusares after he criticized him in his radio program for promoting the controversial Kapa Community investment scam in another local radio station.

Regional Trial Court Judge Henelinda Molina-Diaz issued the arrest warrant against Tabusares and Gerozaga after they were indicted for murder with no bail recommended.
