86-year-old Chinese woman dies in Ermita, Manila fire  


An 86-year-old Chinese woman died in a fire that hit her house in Ermita, Manila on Sunday morning, May 5.

The Manila Police District (MPD) said the fire started from the victim's two-story house along Guerrero Street in Ermita.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the fire was raised to the first alarm at 9:37 a.m.and was elevated to the second alarm at 9:46 a.m.

A building in front of the burning house, reportedly owned by the victim’s family, was also affected by the blaze. 

One of the victim's sons was in the bathroom before the incident.

When he came out, he told probers that the fire was already burning the ground floor of their house.

He said he tried to save his bedridden mother but he lost consciousness and sustained minor injuries. 

Firefighters were able to put the fire under control at 10:55 a.m. and extinguished it at 11:07 a.m. 

Arson investigators are still determining the damage to property and the cause of the fire.
