Business leader cites role of private sector in education


Amb. Francis Chua, chairman emeritus of the Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce of the Philippines, honorary president of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and founder of the International Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines, has emphasized the role of business sector in strengthening the education system in the country.

“Education is the key to our future, empowering young minds to become leaders and innovators. With the new technology wing, students will have the necessary tools they need to thrive in this ever-changing world,” said Chua at the inauguration of the Amb. Francis Chua Technology Wing and Bust Unveiling Ceremony at the Universidad de Manila (UDM) on May 2.

In a short interview prior to the event, Chua emphasized that business has a key role in shaping the country’s youth. He said, businesses can support schools. He also emphasized that education should start at home.  

“With the belief that education is the cornerstone of progress, I am proud to partner with our dear UDM on this project, which symbolizes our belief in the power of education to drive progress. I have always believed that success comes from hard work and dedication. And today, as we celebrate this milestone, let us remember that education is the gateway to development and opportunities,” said Chua, adding he was deeply honored for the unveiling of the bust and the inauguration of the new Amb. Francis Chua Technology Wing at UDM. 

He vowed continued support for UDM, an independent educational institutional department of the City of Manila. From tertiary courses, the University has expanded with other program offerings – the Institute of Graduate and Professional Studies (IGPS), the College of Law (CoL), the Center for Microcredentialing and Industry Training (CMIT), and the Senior High School (SHS).
