The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has opened a hotline that will not only cater to road safety-related complaints but also online scamming activities that include phishing scams by cybercriminals who impersonate the agency in sending fake traffic violations.
LTO chief Assistant Secretary Vigor D. Mendoza II said the hotline is aimed at ensuring quick response from the government against erring motorists amid cases of road rage, proliferation of colorum vehicles and even phishing scam.
Phishing scam is the practice of sending emails or text messages purportedly from companies and government agencies. In most cases, the message contains a link that would expose personal information on the target victims once clicked.
Dubbed as “Aksyon on the Spot”, road users are encouraged to send SMS (short messaging system) to 09292920865 if they cross paths with abusive or erring motorists on the road.
Mendoza said they will be distributing “Aksyon on the Spot” stickers to motorists, especially those who will be renewing the license registration of their respective motor vehicles.
The purpose, he said, is to take advantage of the feature of the hotline which also carries a QR code that will provide access to the complainants to formally lodge their complaints.
Mendoza said they will coordinate with other law enforcement agencies to strengthen the enforcement and other law enforcement actions that will be received through the “Aksyon on the Spot” hotline.
