DBM: 5,000 non-teaching jobs to be offered with base salary of P27,000-a-month

The Department of Education (DepEd) will soon begin hiring 5,000 non-teaching personnel with a base monthly salary of at least P27,000, the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) announced.

This decision comes after Budget Secretary Amenah F. Pangandaman granted approval to DepEd's request for the creation of these positions for fiscal year 2024.

According to Pangandaman, these positions will be for Administrative Officer (AO) II roles with Salary Grade (SG) 11, equivalent to a monthly salary ranging from around P27,000 to P29,075.

Upon hiring, these non-teaching personnel will be assigned to School Division Offices and schools in the Cordillera Administrative Region, National Capital Region (NCR), Regions I to XII, and CARAGA.

Pangandaman said the additional personnel would alleviate teachers from the burden of administrative duties caused by the shortage or absence of non-teaching staff in schools.

Recall that DepEd had implemented a directive aimed at relieving teachers of administrative tasks, enabling them to dedicate their time and energy to teaching.

“Our educators already have their plates full. By approving the creation of 5,000 non-teaching positions, we aim to relieve teachers of administrative tasks and allow them to focus on quality instruction. This move will significantly benefit our educators and enhance the country's education system," Pangandaman said.

The funding needed for these newly-created positions will be covered by the Miscellaneous Personnel Benefits Fund under the 2024 General Appropriations Act.

Meanwhile, the retirement and life insurance premium will be covered by automatic appropriations.
