It implemented a scheduled power interruption on almost 80 percent here on Sunday, May 26, as part of its final cleaning operations of its 69-kilovolt (69 kV) line.

“The primary objective of initiating the final phase of our cleaning operation is to adequately prepare for the imminent rainy season,” said Engr. Bernard Bailey del Castillo, Vice President of the Network Development and Operations Group.

“The accumulation of dirt on our power lines poses significant challenges, as it can lead to sparks and outages when it rains. Heavy rainfall is required to effectively wash away the accumulated dirt,” explained Del Castillo.

Affected areas in the 11-hour power interruption included portions of City Proper, La Paz, Mandurriao, and Molo Districts.

There were also three-hour power interruptions in other districts here.

The cleaning operations were the continuation of the first and second phases which were conducted last March 27 and April 21, respectively.

"We could simultaneously interrupt all 69-kV lines due to the expansive working area; hence, we are conducting the process in multiple phases. In addition to facility washing, during the first two phases, we also replaced hundreds of post insulators,” Del Castillo added.

MORE Power offered mobile charging and cold water to areas affected.
