Meralco on alert for tropical storm Aghon

In preparation for the potential impact of Tropical Storm Aghon, the Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) said it is on high alert and ready to respond to any power outages and electricity service concerns that may arise.

In a statement on Sunday, May 26, Joe R. Zaldarriaga, Meralco vice president and head of corporate communications, said that their personnel are on standby to address any emergency situations that may affect their facilities in areas expected to be impacted by the storm.

Zaldarriaga also said Meralco has taken necessary measures to mitigate the possible impact of the weather disturbance and has issued advisories on precautionary measures to be followed.

One of the key safety measures advised by Meralco is the temporary rolling up of billboards by owners and operators to prevent them from being toppled by strong winds, which could lead to power outages.

In the event of flooding, Zaldarriaga said customers are urged to follow safety tips such as turning off the main electrical power switch, avoiding contact with electrical appliances when hands are wet, and unplugging appliances from wall sockets.

Furthermore, he said Meralco encourages the public to keep communication channels open and charge essential devices like mobile phones, laptops, and radios.

In case of power interruptions, customers can tune in to public service radio stations for updates.

To report power outages or other concerns, customers can reach out to Meralco through its social media pages, official website, hotline, or via text message.

Meralco is the largest electric power distribution company in the country.
