Celebrities participate in World Diabetes Day event by vitamins B1 + B6 + B12 (Neurobion)

P&G Health, makers of Vitamins B1 + B6 + B12 (Neurobion), empower diabetics through education and awareness of diabetic peripheral neuropathy

Having diabetes, a prevalent health concern globally, encompasses beyond monitoring high glucose levels as it brings along unforeseen complications that can cast a shadow on one's well-being. Among these complications may include stroke, periodontal disease, chronic kidney disease, cardiovascular disease, and peripheral neuropathy, the most common complication of diabetes that most diabetics are unaware about.

Almost half of people with diabetes experience peripheral neuropathy, also known as nerve damage. It is a chronic clinical condition wherein the peripheral nervous system is damaged that causes the painful “tusok-tusok at pamamanhid” or numbness, tingling, and stinging sensation usually in the hands and feet. Only a few recognize that this is associated with the disease and mistake it as a minor condition, which most of the time causes neglect and worsening condition.

In observance of the World Diabetes Day, Vitamins B1 + B6 + B12 (Neurobion) hosted an event at the Lanson Place, Mall of Asia last November 23 which aims to educate people on the connection between peripheral neuropathy and diabetes as part of its #KnowTheSigns campaign.

The event enabled medical experts, Filipino celebrities, and diabetic communities to share their experiences with diabetes and nerve damage, the importance of knowing one’s risks, and how they combat the challenges brought by the interconnected conditions. Among the medical experts and key opinion leaders (KOL) that took part were Dr. Marie Gertrude C.I. Santos, celebrity chef Rosebud Benitez, and celebrities Ina Raymundo, Gabby Concepcion, and Jean Garcia.

Know your risk, know your response

Advocating for health and wellness, medical experts and celebrities participated in the discussion on preventing and ways of coping with diabetes and nerve damage during World Diabetes Day celebration.

Dr. Gertrude Santos shared in her talk that unidentified and untreated nerve damage can cause comorbidities - it can lead to neuropathic pain which is chronic, not easily treated, and can affect a patient's quality of life.

Sharing her experience with gestational diabetes, Ina Raymundo mentioned experiencing numbness and tingling sensation which she thought was caused by aging.

“Because of the World Diabetes day, I found out na ‘yun palang tusok-tusok and pamamanhid, related pala siya sa pagiging diabetic. The whole time, whenever I would feel pamamanhid and tusok tusok akala ko age-related. My ob-gyn prescribed me b-complex, kasi nga kailangan na natin sa age natin,” (Because of World Diabetes Day, I found out that numbness and tingling sensation that I feel are related to being diabetic. The whole time, whenever I would feel the numbness and tingling sensation, I would think it’s just an age-related condition. My ob-gyn prescribed me b-complex, because that’s what we need as we get older) Ina said during the talk with Paulyn Quiza, who hosted the event.

Gabby Concepcion and Chefmom Rosebud, on the other hand, shared that they came from a diabetic family which made them well aware of their risks. Chefmom Rosebud mentioned having conversations with her relatives about diabetes, researching, and hearing from experts online helped her learn more about the risks, about the disease, and ways to prevent them, which she employs in spreading diabetes awareness in her platforms.

They have been advocating and maintaining a balanced lifestyle to maintain a healthy body and mind even when being challenged by diabetes and nerve damage.

“I am an advocate of health and wellness so it’s important to me to maintain a balanced lifestyle. One of the things that I do to combat stress is that I really workout, I exercise. I would always tell my followers that you don’t really have to go to a gym, you don’t need gym membership for that. Do something that would make you physically active,” Rosebud emphasized this during an interview with Manila Bulletin.

“It’s not really just to look good. It’s not just for aesthetics. It’s really feeling good, feeling healthy. My main goal in life is to live a long healthy life, the quality of life is very important to me,” she added.

Besides exercise, healthy diet, and keeping up with health updates, KOL participants mentioned that taking Vitamins B1 + B6 + B12 (Neurobion), helped relieve and keep away the pains of nerve damage.

“Both my parents have diabetes. Maybe at a young age kaya nila ko binibigyan nito because they know na eventually, magiging diabetic din yung anak nila. So at a very young age, we’ve been taking this, Vitamin B1, B6, and B12.” (I was actually introduced to what we have in Vitamins B1 + B6 + B12 (Neurobion). We have vitamin B1, B6 and B12. Both my parents have diabetes. Maybe at a young age, they gave this to me because they knew that I was highly at risk. So, at a very young age, we’ve been taking this, Vitamin B1, B6, and B12.) Gabby Concepcion said during the interview with Manila Bulletin when asked about how he maintains a healthy life.

Ina Raymundo testified to how Vitamins B1 + B6 + B12 (Neurobion) is able to help relieve nerve damage symptoms and pain with proper diet and exercise and regular intake. “It’s so important to know your signs. Whenever I talk to my friends and my family I always encourage them to know your signs, to take care of the body, and to take the proper vitamins. “For me, Vitamins B1 + B6 + B12 (Neurobion) helped me relieve my symptoms with the pamamanhid and the tusok tusok (with proper diet and exercise and regular intake)”
