LEGAZPI CITY, Albay – The Office of the Civil Defense (OCD)-Bicol announced on Saturday morning, May 25, that sea travel and flights in the region were canceled due to tropical depression "Aghon."
Gremil Naz, spokesperson of OCD-Bicol, said that sea travels in major ports of Bicol were suspended effective 11 a.m. on Friday, May 24.
As a result, more than 1,000 passengers were stranded in different ports in the region.
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)-Bicol recorded 1,160 stranded passengers in different ports of Bicol – 30
in Cawayan Port, 350 in Matnog Port, 12 in Bulan Port, 98 in Pilar Port, 219 in Pio Duran Port, 96 in Tabaco Port, and 20 in Mobo port in Masbate province.
Budget airline Cebu Pacific canceled Manila to Naga City and vice versa, Manila to Masbate and vice versa, and Manila to Virac, Catanduanes and vice versa flights.
The Bicol Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) remains on blue alert status.
This means all concerned national government agencies and municipal disaster risk reduction and management offices are on standby for possible deployment or operations.
