In a world saturated with beauty products promising miraculous transformations, the concept of "clean beauty" has emerged as a refreshing alternative, emphasizing transparency, non-toxic ingredients, and sustainability. While the exact definition may vary, clean beauty champions products that are both good for your skin and the planet. 

This movement is not merely a trend; it reflects a growing awareness of the potential health and environmental impacts of traditional cosmetic ingredients. As consumers become more conscious of what they put on their bodies, clean beauty is poised to redefine the standards of the beauty industry. In this story, we listed some skincare products and brands available locally that can be considered as clean, sustainable brands.

Aesop

This Australian luxury beauty brand is at the forefront of sustainable and ethically sourced beauty products and is certified by numerous certification groups. Recently, Aesop introduced its new product—the Immaculate Facial Toner. It contains both Vitamin B3 and Provitamin B5 in the form of Niacinamide and Panthenol, to replenish and soften the skin, helping to support suppleness and resilience, as well as Mucor Miehei Extract—an enzyme renowned for its gentle exfoliating properties, derived from the eponymous microorganism.

Skin Sapiens

Awarded and certified by numerous respected clean beauty organizations like 1% For The Planet,  EcoCert Cosmos Natural, Cruelty Free International, and Vegan, this brand has several products that are worth trying such as face cream and serum.

Barry M

Launched in 1982 by Barry Metro in East London, this brand offers vibrant vegan products to the Filipino. It positioned itself as 100 percent vegan and cruelty-free, with 70 percent natural ingredients. Its long list of products encompassing skincare to makeup. 

Beauty of Joseon

One of the most famous skincare brands from South Korea, Beauty of Joseon is rooted in Hanbang, the traditional Korean medicine where it uses traditional ingredients. While it is not completely vegan, it offers several products that are vegan. On top of these, the brand is also cruelty-free. 

Pure Paw Paw

One of the OG of all-purpose ointment, Paw Paw is selling millions of tubes worldwide. On top of delivering its promise, it also cares for the environment, as all packaging is made from 100 percent recycled materials. 

Kaine

Certified by the French certification body, Eve Vegan, Kaine is named as Vegan & Cruelty-Free Skincare. The company also practices exclusive use of PCR (Post-Consumer Recycled) materials in their packaging, which are made from recycled plastics and glass.

Happy Skin

A proudly Pinoy brand, Happy Skin is cruelty-free and most of their products are vegan. All of the brand’s products are also Food and Drug Administration (FDA) certified. All of their products are either made in Korea, Japan, or Taiwan. 

Heimish

Established in 2016 in South Korea, Heimish is a vegan brand that champions natural beauty. Some of the cult-faves from the brand are Cleansing Balm and Eye Cream. 

Round Lab

Round Lab’s distributor in the Philippines confirmed that the brand is cruelty-free and vegan. They also said that the company prioritizes natural extracts, plant-based ingredients, and skin-loving compounds. 

Drunk Elephant

While some are still contesting whether Drunk Elephant is a clean beauty brand, it’s nice to note that this brand does not sell their products in countries or areas where animal testing is required. Hence, we can say that Drunk Elephant is cruelty-free. It is not entirely vegan but it excludes harsh ingredients, so it is a good option if you’re looking for a cleaner, sustainable brand. 

Kiehl’s

Now this one may raise some eyebrows as the beauty community doesn’t necessarily consider Kiehl’s as a clean beauty brand. However, it’s also worthy to take note of the brand’s effort to champion sustainability. To make sure some of their ingredients are sustainable, the company said that they are supporting 600 farming communities worldwide and offering refillable products to lessen carbon footprints.
