Antipolo's Virgin ends its 3-day historic visit to Marinduque

The pilgrim image of the Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage from the International Shrine of the Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage in Antipolo City ended its historic visit to the island province of Marinduque on Thursday, May 23, which falls on the feast day of the image’s counterpart in Balanacan, Mogpog in Marinduque.

Antipolo’s shrine rector and administrator, Fr. Reynante Tolentino, who led the delegation to the island province, confirmed to Manila Bulletin that the three-day visit of Antipolo’s Marian image to the Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage Parish ended with the parishioners bidding farewell to the Antipolo visitors at the port of Mogpog.

The highlight of the visit, the first in the history of the Diocese of Boac, in Marinduque, was the maritime procession with parishioners joining the fluvial procession as part of the Banca-Banca Festival.

The Virgin of Antipolo, also known as the Nuestra Señora dela Paz Y Buenviaje, stayed in the parish church from May 21 to 23 with parishioners holding vigil and performing public veneration.

A concelebrated mass led by Boac Bishop Marcelino Antonio Maralit, Jr., was held in the parish church, which houses Marinduque’s version of the image of the Virgin of Antipolo.

The pilgrim image’s visit came as Antipolo holds the Ahunan sa Antipolo 2024, the season of the year where pilgrims go to Antipolo to perform their annual vow of praying for the intercession of Mary whose 17th century old image is enshrined in the international shrine in Rizal Province.
