Boracay Water's production drops slightly amid El Niño

Boracay Water, a unit of Manila Water Philippine Ventures, reported a slight decrease in production capacity due to the prolonged impact of El Niño.

In a statement on Thursday, May 23, Boracay Water announced that its production capacity has decreased from 25 million liters of water per day (MLD) to 22.5 MLD.

Despite the reduction in output, Boracay Water has assured its costumers that this decline has not impacted the company's ability to meet the water demand of the island.

In 2023, Boracay Water's production capacity stood at 25 MLD, well above the actual water demand of 11.38 MLD.

The company said this surplus indicates a well-managed supply system with substantial reserves.

“Over the past eight years, from 2015-2023, the water supply has been consistently sufficient to meet the demand, showcasing effective resource management and operational efficiency,” Boracay Water said

In 2025, the water concessionaire expects a rise in water demand to 13.38 MLD.

Boracay Water operates as a concessionaire under the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority, providing water supply and wastewater services on Boracay Island.
